Super Visa insurance your parents need, paid month by month
IRCC asks for a full year of medical insurance before it issues a Super Visa. You don't have to pay that year in one go. Pankaj compares monthly plans from Canadian insurers and gets you a paid policy you can attach to the application.
- $100,000+ emergency cover
- Valid for 365 days from entry
- Accepted by IRCC when paid in instalments
One year of cover, twelve payments
Your parents are insured for the full year from the day they land. You pay for it as the months go by.

For a Super Visa, choose 365 days and at least $100,000 of coverage.
What the visa officer checks on the insurance
Most Super Visa refusals linked to insurance come from the paperwork, not the coverage amount. A quote is not enough, and a policy that starts on the wrong date can sink the application. Every plan Pankaj arranges is checked against IRCC's list before you submit.
- At least $100,000 of emergency coverage for each parent or grandparent.
- Health care, hospitalization and repatriation must all be covered.
- Valid for at least one year from the date of entry, and on each entry to Canada.
- Paid, not quoted. Payment in full or in instalments with a deposit are both accepted.
- Available at the border if a border services officer asks to see it.
Monthly or annual: which suits your family?
Both give the same protection and both satisfy IRCC. The difference is cash flow, fees and flexibility.
| Monthly plan | Pay the year up front | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay to apply | First month's premium and any setup fee | The full annual premium |
| Setup fee | $50 to $120 once, or $10 per person a month, depending on the insurer | None |
| If the visa is refused | First premium normally refunded with the refusal letter. With RIMI, the setup fee is refunded only if that letter reaches the insurer before the start date. | Premium refunded with the refusal letter, subject to the insurer's rules |
| Cancelling early | Remaining months stop. RIMI charges a $50 early-cancellation fee. | Usually a refund of unused days, less any admin fee, if no claim was made |
| Best for | Families who would rather not pay a full year's premium at once | Families who want the lowest total cost and no monthly debits |

Does IRCC accept Super Visa insurance paid monthly?
Yes. IRCC's instructions to officers say the policy must cover a full year on each entry, whether it was paid in full or in instalments with a deposit. What it won't accept is a quote. You need an issued policy and proof that the first payment was made.
How much does Super Visa insurance cost per month?
It depends mainly on age, the deductible you choose, the coverage amount and whether you need pre-existing conditions covered. A healthy parent in their 50s or early 60s usually costs far less than one in their mid-70s. Ask for a quote with your parents' exact dates of birth to see real numbers from each insurer.
What happens if the Super Visa is refused?
Send the refusal letter to the insurer and the premium is normally refunded. Setup fees on monthly plans follow each insurer's rules. With RIMI, the $120 fee is refunded only if the refusal letter reaches the insurer before the policy's start date, and never once the visa is approved.
Can my parents with diabetes or high blood pressure get covered?
Usually, yes, if the condition has been stable for the period the insurer requires, often 90 or 180 days with no change in medication or treatment. You'll need to answer the medical questions honestly. A wrong answer can void a claim later.
When should the policy start?
On the day your parents arrive in Canada. If you don't know the date yet, pick your best estimate. Most insurers let you move the start date before the policy begins, as long as no claim has been made.
